Atmoshpere and Food

OK, I have to admit that at least 30% of my review is based on the location of this restaurant alone- located below grade at an old jailhouse building downtown. I love the way the interior designer has treated the space to create an art-deco feel while convincing you that the low ceiling height really isn't low at all. It's a beautiful place. The menu is eclectic and relatively short. There are plenty of items that I've never heard of and some crazy combinations to boot, like the Strawberry Basil Martini. Yuck, I thought, but my waiter convinced me to give it a shot and I'm so glad I did. It was excellent. Another insane combo I tried was the Macaroni and Cheese with Duck. I know it sounds crazy but it worked very well. I found the service to be good and my server to have a good knowlege of the menu. You can expect to pay about $45 for a meal and a drink but dessert is included with the entree. I would give this a 4-Star rating.

Salty food and poor customer service

My husband and I went to have dinner at Jack & Charlie's because I had heard that the food was good and we like to try to new places. This is one reasturant I would not really recommend. Looking at the menu I decided not to have a large meal so I ordered a Waldorf Salad and my husband ordered a tomato bisque soup and ceasar salad. I tried the soup and thought it was very salty, the bread and butter was also salty, Thinking it was just me I ask my husband and he said yes its salty. My Waldorf Salad was really salty and there was only one small piece of walnut, large chunks of apple. My husbands ceaser salad was also very salty. Our waiter seemed to be dispointed we were not ordering a big meal, when he took the order he said Oh light eating are we. The next time we had contact with him was when he brought our food and then again when he brought the dessert menu, when we said we didn't want dessert, he brought our bill and slapped it on the table. Since we do eat out a lot I don't think this will be on our list to visit again.
